I think this article should win an award! A lot of things I didn't know, and a very intelligent analysis of existing data. It seems there may be a vicious cycle effect where less democracy actually incites policies that increase inequality, reducing democracy, etcetera. That may mean stopping such backsliding is critical at the very beginning, or before it even starts, where it's easier to combat.

Thank you Morgan! Definitely agree that stopping democratic backsliding as early as possible is important. Once you are in a situation like Hungary, where all the systems are rebuild to favor the existing government, it is very difficult to create an effective opposition and change things back again.
